Today, Carla-Bayle is an artists’ village, with a dozen permanent galleries and workshops open to the public. In summer, the “Summer of Art” festival transforms the village into an open-air gallery. Painting, sculpture, ceramics and photography come together in a unique setting.

Birthplace of philosopher Pierre Bayle, cradle of freedom of thought
Carla-Bayle was the birthplace of Pierre Bayle, a 17thᵉ century Protestant philosopher and advocate of religious tolerance. The Pierre Bayle Museum retraces his work and the village’s turbulent past, marked by the Wars of Religion. The alleyways have preserved some fine examples of old architecture.
