A museum in Mazères that traces history from the Neolithic to ancient southern Gaul!

Located in the beautiful Ardouin town house, 2 minutes from the Bastide campsite, built in 1580, the museum boasts a rich collection dating from the Neolithic to the Visigothic and Frankish eras.
Its walls, steeped in history, are home to the permanent exhibition Barbares en Gaule du Sud (Barbarians in Southern Gaul), which presents the remains of the Merovingian necropolis at Bénazet: funerary objects, belt buckles and weapons, all bearing witness to a rich and tormented past.
The museum invites young and old to become “archaeological apprentices” – an immersive and enriching experience to understand the roots of Mazères and the Ariège region.
