A hike
Near the prehistoric cave
A loop in the heart of Mas-d’Azil, immersed in nature and heritage.
The Mas-d’Azil Dolmens trail starts at the village of Mas d’Azil, and takes in forest paths, footpaths and small roads to discover several ancient dolmens (Dolmen de Brillaud, Couminge, Cap de Pouech…). Over the course of around 15-16 km (depending on the variant), the trail climbs and descends, through forests and open areas, offering views over the valley and relief. It’s a beautiful, complete loop combining nature, history and tranquillity.
Good
to know
Moderate gradient, sometimes stony or slippery terrain.
This is a hike with some steep climbs at first, then more accessible paths. The terrain can be rocky or slippery, especially after rain – caution is advised on the final descent. The hike is most enjoyable in dry weather, with suitable footwear. For more information on the hike : https://www.visorando.com/randonnee-circuit-des-dolmens-du-mas-d-azil/ .
How to get there
to the starting point
From Le Bourdieu campsite, take the 22 km road to the starting point!
From Le Bourdieu, head south-west towards the village of Mas-d’Azil. Once there, park on the Place du Fond de la Ville, near the Arize river. The tour starts on foot: cross the bridge, then follow the “Dolmens” signs. By car + on foot, this is an excellent combined “nature + heritage” outing, perfect for a full day out.
