Perched fortress and witness to the Cathar past

Dominating the Ariège valley from its rocky outcrop, Château de Lordat is one of the oldest feudal castles in the county of Foix. Situated at an altitude of 965 m, it offers an impressive panorama of the surrounding mountains and the villages of the upper valley.

A site undergoing restoration, open to visitors

Although in ruins, the castle can be visited freely or on guided tours in summer. The castle’s towers, walls and remaining rooms offer a picturesque setting steeped in history. Medieval entertainment and falconry shows are sometimes organized here, particularly during the tourist season.

Combine with Foix, Montségur or Roquefixade

Château de Lordat fits perfectly into an itinerary exploring the fortresses of Cathar country. It’s also close to the Lombrives cave, Ax-les-Thermes and the ski resorts of the Ariège Pyrenees.
