The second largest glacial cirque in the Pyrenees after Gavarnie, the Cirque de Cagateille is a little-known gem in the Haut-Couserans region. Surrounded by peaks over 2,800 metres high, this wilderness site impresses with its verticality, waterfalls and unspoilt nature.

1 h easy walk to reach the bottom of the cirque
From the parking lot in the Ustou valley, a signposted path takes you to the heart of the cirque in around an hour. The walk, through undergrowth and along the river, is accessible to the whole family. At the end of the route, the arrival in the cirque unveils a majestic setting of rock faces, fir trees and streams.

for hikers
Departure point for numerous itineraries to high-altitude lakes and refuges
Cagateille is also the starting point for beautiful hikes to the Hillette and Piède lakes, as well as to the Estagnous refuge. For the more athletic, it’s a gateway to high peaks like Mont Valier.
