L’Étang Bleu
high altitude pearl in the Garbet valley
A mountain lake with intense reflections, accessible by a beautiful hike
Located at an altitude of 1,930 metres in the Aston massif, l’Étang Bleu lives up to its name: its limpid waters take on a turquoise hue in the sunlight, contrasting with the rocky slopes that surround it. It’s one of Ariège’s most spectacular lakes, accessible on foot to lovers of unspoilt nature.
A sustained hike
but accessible
Approx. 4-5 hours round trip from Artigue parking lot
The trail starts from l’Artigue, above Auzat, with a positive difference in altitude of around 900 meters. The climb begins in the forest, then passes through alpine meadows and mineral landscapes. The effort is rewarded by the sudden discovery of the lake, nestling at the bottom of a wild cirque.
A preserved natural site
between silence and contemplation
Perfect for a picnic, a break or a soak in nature
L’Étang Bleu is ideal for hikers in search of tranquillity, wide open spaces and summer coolness. Here you can relax, watch the marmots or simply listen to the silence. Out of respect for this fragile environment, swimming is not recommended, and the site is not equipped.
