An unmissable hike between Ariege and Aude

Perched at an altitude of 2,364 metres, the Pic du Tarbésou dominates the Donezan valleys, mountain lakes and Capcir ridges. Situated on the border between Ariège and Aude, it offers an exceptional 360° panorama, accessible via a technically easy hike.

Departure from Col de Pailhères, possible loop via the ponds

The hike starts at the Col de Pailhères (2,001 m), accessible by car from Ax-les-Thermes (except during winter). It takes around 2 h 30 round trip to reach the summit, with the possibility of a loop via the superb Rabassoles ponds. A very popular route in summer, for its diversity of landscapes.

Pyrenees, Canigou, Ariège valley and blue ponds

From the summit, the view stretches from the Pics d’Envalira to the Canigou, taking in the Ariege valleys, mountain lakes and high plateaus. It’s an ideal spot for photography, contemplation or a picnic at altitude.
