Hiking
For a splendid view
An easy hike with a view of the Château de Foix.
The Terrasses du Pech trail starts from the historic heart of Foix and climbs gently to a natural belvedere. Passing through medieval alleyways and an ancient stone bridge, you enter a forest trail that winds through the woods. As you climb, the view opens out onto the château comtal and the Barguillère valley – a magical panorama combining heritage and nature. The path then leads over dry-stone terraces, remnants of farming in bygone days, which lend a special charm to this climb – a veritable journey through time and landscape.
Good to know
Before you leave
A well-marked route for a relaxing day!
The Terrasses du Pech is a medium-level hike – 3.2 km for around 230 m of ascent and descent, to be completed in ~2 hours round trip. The trail climbs in regular twists and turns, with no major technical difficulties, but the ascent remains sensitive – good shoes and water are recommended. The route is well signposted, with interpretation panels explaining the built heritage (dry-stone terraces, ancient orri) and ancient farming life – a real plus for combining walking and local history. Depending on the season, nature changes – wildflowers, birds, even wild asparagus in spring – making the walk even more enjoyable.
How to get there
